Homestead gardening has been playing an important role in the production of horticultural crops in Bangladesh. Malnutrition and demand for vegetables and fruits are increasing in Bangladesh day by day. With the continuous increase in population, new houses are being built on the homesteads, thereby reducing the land area available for agricultural activities. Homestead vegetable, fruit, and spice cultivation are especially important in overcoming seasonal availability of foods and promoting household self-sufficiency.
In addition, trees are essential for our planet’s health. They provide the oxygen we breathe, trap and store carbon, reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases that cause global warming, and bring rain to the land. AJUS is implementing tree plantation and homestead gardening to raise awareness of the importance of these practices and to demonstrate how they can be done.
AJUS has been training beneficiaries in the community and distributing seeds and plants free of cost. They have also been working to raise awareness of the benefits of homestead gardening and tree plantation through community events and outreach activities.
These efforts are having a positive impact on the lives of people in Bangladesh. Homestead gardening is helping to improve nutrition, provide a source of income, and protect the environment. Tree plantation is helping to reduce air pollution, improve water quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
AJUS is committed to continuing to work to promote homestead gardening and tree plantation in Bangladesh. They believe that these practices are essential for improving the lives of people and protecting the environment.
